トリンキュロはキャリバンの下にもぐって、嵐を避ける。キャリバンはトリンキュロを自分をいじめに来た妖精だとおもう。
| TRINCULO: there would this monster make a man; any strange beast there makes a man: when they will not give a doit to relieve a lame beggar, they will lazy out ten to see a dead Indian. Legged like a man and his fins like arms! Warm o' my troth! I do now let loose my opinion; hold it no longer: this is no fish, but an islander, that hath lately suffered by a thunderbolt. [Thunder] Alas, the storm is come again! my best way is to creep under his gaberdine; there is no other shelter hereabouts: misery acquaints a man with strange bed-fellows. I will here shroud till the dregs of the storm be past. |
トリンキュロー： あそこならこの化け物で一山当てられる。妙な獣で男を上げて一儲けって国だもんな。足なえの乞食にゃビタ一文出そうと しない癖に、死んだインディアンを見るためなら大枚をはたこうって手合いだ。足がついてら、人間みたい。それに鰭は 腕みたいだ。あったかい、確かだ。よし、今の意見は撤回する、きっぱり捨てる。こいつは魚じゃない。島の者だ、 さっきの雷でくたばったな。 [雷鳴] 大変だ、また荒らしになる。こいつの上っ張りの下に潜り込むのが一番だ。見たとこほかに隠れ場所はないからな。 人間せっぱつまれば、どんな妙なやつとでも添い寝する。嵐が底をつくまでここにもぐっていよう。 |

[ステファーノ、酒瓶を手に歌いながら登場] ステファノー： 海に出るのはもうよそう。 どうせ死ぬなら陸（おか）の上― 人の葬式で歌うにゃあお粗末な歌だ。ま、いいか、俺の気つけ薬はこれだ。 [飲む] [歌う] 船長、雑役、水夫長に俺、大砲係にその相棒、惚れた相手はモル、メグ、マリアン、マージョリー、誰もアートにゃ 惚れやせぬ。それもそのはず、あいつの下は人を刺す、水夫と見れば「くたばりやがれ！」 タールと油の臭いは嫌いなくせに 仕立て屋ならどこなりと、むずむずすれば掻かせやがる。海の男よ、海に出ろ、あんな女はくたばりやがれ。 こいつもお粗末な歌だな。だが、俺の気つけ薬はこれだ [飲む] |

scurvy tune お粗末な歌 scurvy = ≪古い≫卑しい、卑劣な(mean)。
新たに登場するステファーノーの宮廷での役目はバトラー（buttler）。酒蔵、食器、配膳などを管理する。
