人には姿の見えない妖精エアリアルが、歌いながら登場する。ひとり孤島に流れ着いたナポリ王の息子ファーディナンドは、エアリエルの歌に惹かれて、エアリエル についてゆく。難破した父はおぼれ死んだものと思っている。
