先日開催された「Developers Summit 2011」や、昨日開催された「Hadoop Conference Japan 2011」など、弊社エンジニアが講演する機会がここ最近、多くなっています
。サイバーエージェントにそもそも自社エンジニアがいることすら満足に語られておらず、私一人で講演などしていた数年前を考えると、まさに隔世の感がありますが、今では人も技術も外だしできるものが多いので、安心して彼らにまかせられますね（丸投げ、ともいう）。
今週の「第4回 ITmedia エンタープライズ ソリューションセミナー」では、うちのネットワーク責任者のITOが講演しますが、普通じゃいえない（いっちゃいけない）内容の話も出てきますので、ネットワークに興味のある方はぜひ参加してみてください。「データセンターは集約せず、一流エンジニアの数だけその個性、ポリシーにつながるデータセンターを増やす」がうちの流儀です。
そういえば、今でも日本に帰ってきているときを知ってかしらずか講演の依頼を受けることがありますけれども、私は現場に(時には私より優秀に)出来ることはしない主義ですので、基本、他人に回すか、辞退させていただいています、ご了承ください。CTOなんてものはある意味オペレーティングシステムみたいなものですので、システム（組織）がフリーズ、ストールしない限り目立つ必要なんてありませんね(この間、全プロセスのスケジューリングアルゴリズムを変えたりはしましたけど)。
ついでにいうと、某O社の営業電話も不要ですし、マンション経営にも全く興味はありませんので、もう電話してこないで欲しいです...。
さて、今回は研究レポートからの抜粋。栄えある？第１回最優秀賞受賞、データベースエンジニアDaikokuさんのレポートです。有用ですが、そのうち陳腐化しそうなネタなので、今のうちに。
4年間、数百台のデータベースとサーバを設計、管理、チューニングし続け、定期メンテナンス、トラブル対応と突っ走りつづけたDaikokuさんですが、齢30を超えて、近頃はちょっとお疲れの様子。「俺らの仕事は、全力疾走のマラソンだ！！」というのは、私が以前所属した会社の編集長が述べた名言？ですが、幸いうちは皆でマラソンしていますので、しばらく休息をとりつつ、ぜひリタイアせずに、また完走してもらいたいですね。
管理職なんて○○喰らえ。50才過ぎても、現場で働けていることが、いつの世にもエンジニアにとっての完走だと思います。

Some engineers at our department attend famous IT conferences in Japan such as Developers Summit 2011 and Hadoop Conference Japan 2011 these days. It is very impressive because I only attended IT conferences as a speaker a few years ago. Now there are a lot of smart and first-rated engineers in our company, so I can take over the role to them easily. If you are interested in heavy traffic network system, I'd like to suggest you attend the ITmedia Corp. 4th Enterprise Solution Seminar. The General Manager of network department, Ito-san, will attend the conference as a speaker, and he will tell you about the confidential technology about Ameba. Our policy is not to gather data centers into a big data center even if we have huge number of PC servers. We will have data center and first-rated network engineer in the proportion of one to one.
By the way, I still be asked by someone via phone to lecture something at the conference during I stay in Japan. However, I usually won't receive their offer. These is no valuable for me to receive the offer if a lot of engineers at our department can do the task better than me. From my viewpoint, CTO should act like operating system. He shouldn't do anything unless application(means organization) gets hang or gets error.
Well...This weeks article is written by Daikoku-san. He is one of veteran database engineers. He got the first prize in first IT report. It is about an effective performance among file or operating system. Daikoku-san have designed, managed and tuned our web service systems for more than for years. He is in his early thirties now. Because of that, he seems a little tired these days. I hope he will have a rest for a while. Then I hope he continues to do his professional business as a field engineer.
It sucks for me to be a General Manager or CTO. I hope all engineers including me will continue to work as an engineer even if we are fifties.
