The US Open begins next week and over the last few days the seedings have been announced. In the men's draw it's unsurprisingly Novak Djokovic seeded first with Rafa Nadal and Sir Roger second and third. Andy Murray has been awarded the fourth seed followed by David Ferrer and Robin Soderling.

Citreon has taken a record 78th win in the World Rally Championship after French driver Sebastien Ogier won the Rally of Germany over the past weekend. Ogier's team-mate compatriot and name-sake Sebastien Loeb was second and still leads the championship.
The WRC season now comes down under with the 10th (of 13) round being held in the Coffs Coast region of NSW from September 8-11.
Golf
The playoffs portion of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup begins with the Barclays at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey.
The FedEx Cup sees players earning points from participating tournaments throughout the season while the playoffs consists of four tournaments that cull down the top 125 ranked players to an eventual field of 30 at the final Tour Championship. Each of the four tournaments offer up US$8 million in prize money while the eventual points leader after the Tour Championship walks away with a cool US$10 million.
American Nick Watney leads the points standings going in to the playoffs.
Adam Scott is currently 13th in the points tally and is the best ranked of 12 Australians in the field. Jason Day is one place behind in 14th while Aaron Baddeley is 22nd.
Baseball
Last week saw the 40 year-old Jim Thome (Minnesota Twins) become the 8th player to reach 600 career home runs. The five time all-star hit two home runs in consecutive at bats against the Detroit Tigers to chalk up the milestone.
