Brazil makes up half of South America and is the fifth largest country in the world. The country has an estimated population of 197,000,000 (Source: World Bank, 2011), 46 percent or are Internet users and 59,000,000 are Facebook users (Source: Internet World Stats 2012). Brazil is a ripe and robust market offering excellent growth opportunities on exports.In 2011, the United States was Brazil's largest source of imports followed by China, Argentina, Germany and South Korea. The key sectors of the Brazilian market with higher than average growth are: air transportation, telecoms, oil and gas and mining.
At present, China has been one of the largest plastic industrial countries in the world, the development of China's plastics industry chain has been integrated with the global plastics industry, while being driven by China's booming huge consumer market, now China ranks Brazil's largest import market of plastic products.
Since 2013, China's exports of plastic products for the Brazilian growth has slowed, but the proportion has increased steadily, now more than a quarter. China has become an important source of Brazilian plastic products. According to statistics released by the Brazilian Customs, show that Brazil's total imports and exports of plastic products is US$1.872 billion in 2013, an increase of 8.65 percent. Among them, the total imports of US$1.467 billion, an increase of 10.63%; total exports of US$ 405 million, an increase of 2.05%. Brazil imported US$380 million of plastic products from China in 2013, accounting for 25.94% of total imports, an increase of 8.74%; quantity 95,600 tons, accounting for 34.45%, an increase of 7.65%. Brazilian imports from the second largest import market-USA is US$183 million, accounting for 12.47%, an increase of 12.13%; quantity 13,800 tons, accounting for 4.95%, an increase of 17.43%. Imported from third import market-Uruguay is US$160 million, accounting for 10.93%, up 0.49%; quantity 70,700 tons, accounting for 25.495%, an increase of 0.53%.
In recent years, Chinese exports of plastic products gradually expanded to general consumer goods from the processing trade, but still low added value, from 2007, the average export price of plastic products was US$ 2,250/ton, the average import price was US$6,491/ton, import price is 2.88 times of the export price. On the other hand also shows that domestic demand for high-tech products is huge, need to be imported.
Segments from the product perspective, plastic pipes applications have obvious advantages, market development prospects, the total processing capacity has more than 5 million tons. In 2008, China plastic pipe fittings production was 4,593,400 tons, an increase of 28.189%. Plastic pipe exports amounted to 356,300 tons, an increase of 22.21%. Exports of US$1.002 billion, an increase of 31.15%; imported 40,800 tons, down 10.38%, imports amounted to US$470 million, an increase of 4.94%.The traditional plastic products,such as the PP bags exported by PP bags manufacturers,still has low advantages than pipes. China International Economic and Trade Development Research Center pointed out that although China has become a major exporter of plastic machinery, export volume and value showed a substantial growth trend in recent years, however, China is still a lot of from foreign imports, imports of high-tech plastics machinery is especially greater than exports.
