As we all know,AAC conductor  can be divided into aluminum core cables and aluminum alloy cables. However, it has been proved by practice that aluminum alloy cables are more popular.

In the 1960s, aluminum core cables made of pure aluminum spread rapidly in North America. The aluminum alloy construction wires developed by Southwire in 1968 made leading progress and were promoted and applied in the United States and Canada. However, by the end of the 1960s, the aluminum core electrical lines installed in the early days frequently experienced connection failures, and the power department and residents complained a lot. In order to solve these problems, in 1970, wire and cable companies began to study aluminum alloy cables.

In my country's wire industry, the growth period of aluminum alloy cables is not short. As early as the 1960s, my country began to study the application of aluminum alloy conductors to overhead wires. It has a history of 50 years, but it is used in bulk for overhead transmission lines. Construction was still in the 1990s. The real substitution of imports and the massive use of engineering construction started with the construction of the Three Gorges Power Station. The use of power cables has only just developed in recent years.

As the upstream of the acsr conductor, the aluminum alloy wire cannot be ignored

Huang Haoshi from the Shanghai Cable Research Institute told reporters: “Aluminum alloy has higher strength and better heat resistance than pure aluminum, and the made wires have a better pull-to-weight ratio.”

As the upstream raw material of aluminum alloy cables, aluminum alloy wires have attracted everyone's attention.

According to reports, as early as the 1960s, Tianjin began to build a production workshop for aluminum alloy wires, but it was destroyed by natural disasters, and then Wuhan Cable Factory established a workshop, which has continued to this day.

The wire and cable industry is the main user of aluminum alloy for electrical engineering. In the past two years, about 2 million tons of electrical aluminum conductors have been used for transmission lines and cable cores.

There are currently 4 aluminum alloy wire manufacturers included in the State Grid Corporation’s procurement list, but there are more than a dozen companies claiming to be able to produce and construct.

“my country’s power generation and power consumption are currently among the world’s forefront. As the world’s second largest economy, my country’s power consumption will also increase day by day. Energy conservation will be a very important task. Aluminum alloy lines are on the newly built transmission lines. Especially in the large-span wire and in the transformation of the old line for increasing capacity, there is a wider application prospect." Huang Haoshi said.

He also emphasized that the domestic aluminum alloy wire still needs to pay attention to the following two points: First, although it has excellent performance, the process performance requirements are more stringent during production, so the operation process should be strictly followed. Second, high-quality products should be manufactured with equipment with good performance. At present, there is only one type of aluminum continuous casting and rolling mill in my country, and a variety of models should be developed in the future. Foreign countries (such as the United States, Italy and other countries) have excellent aluminum alloy continuous casting and rolling mills, but the prices are high, and detailed comparisons should be made in China.
