前回に引き続き、メアリーオリバーの詩を紹介したいと思います。
それは、「私が木々の間にいるとき」です。
When I Am Among The Trees
Mary Oliver
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oak and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
私が木々の間にいるとき
特にヤナギやアメリカサイカチの木々は
そしてブナやナラやマツの木々も同様に
それらの木々は喜びの兆しを発していて、
きっと私を救っています、日々に。
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
私は自分の希望からは遠いところにいます。
そこには優しさと分別があり
世の中では決して急がず
ゆっくり歩き、しばしば頭を下げます。
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, "Stay awhile."
The light flows from their branches.
私の周りで木々は葉をかき揺らし
呼びかけます、「しばらく、ここに居なさい」と
すると、光が枝から流れ出て、
And they call again, "It's simple," they say,
"and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine."
そして再び呼びかけます、「簡単ですよ」と
「あなたもまたこの世に来たのです、
気楽に生きるために、光で満たされるために
そして、光輝くために」
