今日は原爆の日。広島の子供は、幼稚園からずっと平和教育を受けます。私は、京都と東京に古い友人が多いので、少し、私たち広島人の原爆と平和へ対する考えと言うか習慣のようなものを見てください。
Today 69 years ago, an atomic bomb was dropped on the right center of Hiroshima city. We, its citizens, have more learned about wars, peace and A-bomb at schools than in the other parts of Japan.
I would like to show you a kind of our thoughts on peace and wars.
この写真は私の好きだったおばあちゃまが作ってくれたキーホルダーです。
This is a key chain an old woman made me.
特別養護老人ホームにおられて、ある日、アメリカ人への被爆体験をお話になられました。私はボランティア通訳としてその場におり、このおばあちゃまと知り合いました。
The old woman had been in a nursing home and she told her experience of A-bombing to students or adults from the United States. I met her as a translator for the first time.
彼女の少し話ベタな体験談は強烈でした。
例えば、「鈴木さん、と名前を呼ばれたから、あー、私には顔があるんだと思いました。」と。
She did not speak fluently but her real story was intense. For example, "someone called me Suzuki-san, and I figured out I had my face."
たった一つのエピソードですが、数分間、信じられない事実を語られた後に、こう言われました。「みなさんのお陰で、こうやってここで、私は、毎日、生きとります。有難いことです。」
This is only a single episode out of many, and after she told her incredible experience for some minutes, she said "I can live here like this for the sake of everyone. Thank you very much."
私達は、本気で戦争はいけない、核はこの世から廃絶しなければいけないと思っています。
We believe that wars are evil and we absolutely have to eliminate nuclear weapons and all other things related to nuclear from this world.
戦争に勝者もなければ敗者もない。犠牲者あるのみ。
There is no winner and no loser in a war. Only there are victims.
