Lost in Kyoto①
Lost in Kyoto②
Where’s the exit?
I found a rest area,
so I stopped for a little break
and had some water.
There didn’t seem to be
any Japanese people around. 💦
…
Well,
it was about time
to head back to Kyoto Station.
I had to go back to my hotel
to pick up my luggage,
then meet a friend
at the Shinkansen station.
But there was just one problem—
Nijo Castle
was HUGE!
And I was sweating like crazy. 💦
There was a long gravel path
stretching off to both the right
and the left.
Hmm…
Which way should I go?
There were no signs.
So I decided to try the path on the right.
There were three women walking ahead of me.
I thought,
“Okay, they must know the way.”
But then…
the three women suddenly
turned around
and started walking back toward me. 💦
Oh no! 😱
There was no one else around.
So I asked,
“Excuse me…
Do you know where the exit is?”
They looked at me and said,
“We’re lost too!”
What?! 😱
Apparently,
they had already walked
quite a long way from the entrance. 💦
And suddenly,
I started worrying…
“Am I going to make it
to my Shinkansen on time?”
One of the women,
probably her daughter,
pulled out Google Maps.
After checking it,
she said,
“I don’t think this is the right way.”
So the four of us
turned around
and walked back
several hundred meters.
Well,
when I say we walked back,
we basically went all the way
to the rest area I had just passed.
Then we wondered,
“Okay…
where’s the entrance?”
The four of us said,
“Maybe it’s this way?”
and started walking
up the gravel slope
the way we had come.
I asked them,
“Where are you from?”
“Italy! 🇮🇹”
“Milan? Rome?”
“Naples! 🇮🇹”
They were from Naples! 😄
“Welcome to Japan!”
I told them
I’d been to Naples before.
And of course,
we started talking about pizza. 🍕
“The pizza in Naples is amazing!”
I also remembered
the beautiful scenery
I had seen from the top of the hill.
The view really was beautiful.
We were casually chatting
and enjoying the conversation…
but inside,
I was freaking out. 💦
“Am I actually going to make it?!”
Then I spotted
a Japanese staff member.
I ran over to him
and asked,
“Excuse me!
Where’s the exit?”
He looked at me and said,
“The entrance!”
“What?! 😱”
The entrance?!
Isn’t it like
500 meters from here?!
Oh no… 💦
This is bad!
I’d already been walking
for about two hours,
and I was completely exhausted. 💦
Was I going to make it
to my Shinkansen?!
And not just any seat…
I had a Green Car ticket! 🚄
At this point,
all I could do was
laugh and cry at the same time. 😂😭
