Hello everyone,
Welcome back. Did you have a nice obon holiday? I had a lovely, quiet and relaxing week. My wife and I stayed with our in-laws in Nagano and relaxed and saw friends. We also took part in various obon rituals like visiting the family grave and paying respects to my wife's departed relatives.
We came back on Monday to find a newly decorated school. I really like the new look. My secret window has disappeared and there is new flooring and paint. The doors to the classrooms now all have different colours. Mine is blue, Alan's is green, Sachiyo's grammar classroom is red and the kindergarten classroom is yellow. In the PLS system, when we check homework, we award different colour chips. You get a good chip, a blue or green chip, for a correct answer. You get a so-so chip, a yellow chip, for a correct answer with a hint or some help. You get a bad chip, a red chip, for an incorrect answer. Using those colour codings, my room and Alan's room are good rooms, the kindergarten room is the so-so room and the grammar room that Sachiyo uses is the bad room. It's just a joke but I've been telling my students and I hope the names will catch on.

一週間の休みをおえて、戻ってきましたね。よいお盆休みでしたか。
私は静かに、リラックスした有意義なお盆休みを過ごしました。
妻と私は、長野の妻の家に遊びにいき、ゆったり過ごしました。また長野の友人たちとも会いました。
それと、お盆の儀式でもある親戚周りもしました。
そして月曜日に学校が始まり、模様替えした学校を見ました。
新しい内装が私はとても気に入っています
。前にブログで書いた、「秘密の窓」はなくなり、また新しい床と壁になっています。
また４つの教室のドアがそれぞれ違う色になっています。私の部屋は青いドア
です。アランの部屋は緑
、さちよのクラスは赤
、そして幼児クラスの部屋は黄色
です。
PLSシステムでは、宿題のチェックのときに、そのできによって異なる色のチップがもらえます。
「Good 」
チップは青か緑で、正しい答えが言えたことを意味します。
「So-So」
チップは黄色で、これはヒントや助けがあって答えが言えたことを意味します。
「Bad」
チップは赤色で、これは間違った答えや、まったく答えが言えなかったことを意味します。
このカラーの意味を引用すると、私とアランの部屋は「Good」ルームで、幼児クラスの部屋は「So-So」ルームで、さちよの部屋は「Bad」ルームです。
もちろん冗談ですが、私は生徒のみなにこれを言っています。
