I had a great weekend and took the opportunity to go to two matsuri on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday I went to Mishima to see the firefly matsuri. They hold it every year in a park in Mishima. During the day there was great local food available and live music on a stage. When the darkness set in around 8pm, they released a box of fireflies on the stage. Then everyone walked around the park where we could see fireflies in the trees and bushes. It was the first time I had ever seen a firefly, I think it`s amazing that a small insect can produce it`s own light. Unfortunately there weren`t many of them this year because June has been unusually dry so far this year. But it was great to get the chance to see some of them.
On Sunday I visited the Yoshiwara gion matsuri. There lots of food stalls there selling things like yaki-niku, taco balls, french fries and chipped ice. It smelled wonderful walking through the street. We saw groups of people carrying mikoshi and they would stop every now and then to give it a big shake. I thought that was a very interesting custom, and it went very well with the sounds from the taiko drums.
It was a great weekend, and very nice to have dry weather for the festivals.

先週末は良い日でした。土曜日、日曜日の両日とも、日本の祭りをみる機会があったからです。
土曜日は三島に行き、「ほたる祭り
」を見ました。
毎年、ある公園で開かれているどうです。
そこではご当地料理やステージでの音楽パフォーマンスも楽しめました。
８時になりあたりが暗くなったときに、ステージの上でホタルが放たれました。
そして、皆が公園の中を歩き、木ややぶの中に止まっているホタルを観賞しました。
ホタルをみたのは人生で初めてだったので、あんなに小さな虫が光を放つことに感動しました。
残念ながら今年はホタルの数が少なかったようです。６月になってあまり雨が降らないからだそうです。それでもホタルをみれたのでよかったです。
日曜日は、吉原祇園祭に行き
ました。
焼きそば、たこやき
、ポテト、かき氷などたくさんの屋台がでてきました。
吉原通りはそれらの屋台<でとてもいい匂
いでした。
グループで神輿をかつぎ、止まっては大きく神輿を上下に動かしていました。
とっても面白い慣わしだなと思いました。太鼓
の音がとても心地よかったです。
よい週末でした。天気もその日は乾燥していてお祭りにはよかったですね。
