I was having trouble with my teeth.

I didn't sleep very well every night because I had a headache and pain in my tooth. Especially at night, the headache got strong. It was so mysterious.

Fortunately, My school made a reservation for me quickly.

I thought this would be a precious opportunity to listen to

practical English. On the other hand, I thought I would be

taught to understand what the doctor would say.

In addition, I knew the cost was going to be expensive.

Though, I didn't have any time to formulate a complaint because

of the night headache.

When I went to see the dentist, the doctor told me that a cavity was

possibly making the pain.

In my view, I thought the problem was a wisdom tooth.
As you know, Taking out wisdom teeth can be painful.
I was worried about it.
Nobody like pain.

On the day, the doctor just checked my teeth to find which one could

be bad, so I was going to have to be patient with the headache

one more night. In addition, The doctor told me about the cost.
It was supposed to cost about $200.
It's almost the tuition of 10 times to take lessons from a tutor.

Oh, no....

On the next day, I went to see the dentist as in the same way.

I was looking forward to the after because I would be released

from the suffering. The operation took place.
My tooth was re-fixed. As I anticipated, I felt happy.

It was a quite useful time because I listened to practical conversation.
I'm lucky. I hope any trouble come with me soon.
Trouble can give me many kinds of gifts.

Today's word

I have a cavity.

I've got a filling.

I feel my mouth freezing.

☆ガソリンスタンド☆

こんにちは　Helenです

最近、いつも遊んでいるメンバーの一人が車を持っているので、よく車で出かけます

基本的に、に行くときは、sky trainと言う電車を使います

こっちは、バスも電車も、同じチケットが使えます
一度券を買うと、９０分間乗り放題と言うわけですもちろん、１ゾーン・２ゾーンと区域によって値段は変わりますが…。

で、よく車に乗るのですが…
「あっあのガソリンスタンド、日本にもあるよ」と感動しているのに共感してくれないカナディアン…？？？

ここでHelenの一言英語

こっちは、ガソリンスタンドとは言わず、「Petrol station」「Ｇas station」「Filling station」と言うらしいですよ～



看板にも「Petro」って書いてありますね

でも、こっちは交通機関が充実しているので…車を持っていない人もめずらしくはないですよ

Last Monday, it was Thanksgiving Day in Victoria.

Usually, people will eat special food such as turkey, pumpkin pie,
mashed potates and so on.

However, I knew it would take a long time to cook, so I didn't.

I thought about buying precooked Thanksgiving food at

a grocery store, but I realized if I bought all of them.

I would take several days to eat it all.
I wanted just tidbits of them.
Finally I came up with a good idea.
I gave up!!

Instead I decided to go for a long walk.
I took a bus to go to the start point and then I stated walking.
I walked, and walked,and walked.
Sometimes I took picutures of beautiful views, great nature

and mysterious things. Four hours after the start, I arrived at

the elementary school that I used to go to do exercise when I lived in a homestay. I thought it was the goal. I wasn't able to walk anymore

because my knees hurt. I got on a bus to go back home.

I dropped by a grosery store and then found some food

for Thanksgiving Day.
It was a cheese cake which is one of the few sweets that I can eat.
(Actually I don't like sweets)
I ate it as a dessert. yummy.

☆パソコン☆

こんにちは　Helenです

また１セッションが終わりました…
寂しいような…嬉しいような…
でも、今セッションはクラス替えがなしなので、悲しいお別れをせずにすみました
なぜなら…今ケンブリッジコースを取っているからです
PGには、ESLの他にも色々なコースがあります。私のコースは3セッションのプログラムなので、次のセッションも同じメンバーです


そんなメンバーでの授業で…の話になりました

さっそくですが…

ここでHelenの一言英語

こっちでは、パソコンのことをlaptopと言います

「ディスプレイと本体を一体化して持ち運べるようにしたコンピュータ。外出先でひざの上に乗せて使うことができるという意味で、このような名称がついた。現在では携帯型のコンピュータは「ノート」「ノートパソコン」という呼称が定着しており、「ラップトップ」という言葉は1980年代後半に登場した初期の携帯型のコンピュータのことを指すことが多い。欧米では今でも、いわゆるノート型コンピュータを「laptop」と呼ぶことがある。」だそうですBy　IT用語辞書e-Words

日本ではノートパソコンが主流ですよね～


ちなみに…

「PC」＝「Windows」


「MC」＝「Mac」



のことを指すそうですよ～
にいたときは、Macを持っている人は私の周りにいなかったのですが…こっちにきて、すでに４～５人は見ました




それから、私のイメージではこっちの人はみんな　i phone　を電車の中とかでもバリバリ使っているのかと思っていましたが…の携帯の方が機能は80倍ぐらい素晴らしいです　i phone　とその他の携帯とに差がありすぎますこっちは、e-mailではなくtext (SMSみたいなもの）なので、140字までしか一回のメールで送れません。。。もちろん絵文字もなければ…記号の種類も少ない…。
でも、楽しいのでいつもtextを友達としてますけどね

Last week, I had a good chance to have a academic conversation

with local people. I was a member of a group for a presentation.
When we were going to make the presentation,

we had to interview the owner of a company.

We decided to interview the ice cream shop which is quite

popular around here. It would be a helpful practice for us.

At the interview day, we asked several questions such as

'what is the trend', 'what was the trigger that the business took off '

and so on.

I was nervous before, but it was gone soon after the interview stated.

It was because the owner was so unique.

We could speak each of our opinions with smiling.

It was success, probably.

I was able to have the chance because I'm a student of PGIC.

Today's phrase

I couldn't have done it without him...

I wouldn't have been alive without her...

まだ Ｅｎｇｌｉｓｈ　Ｎａｍｅ は決まっていませんが

決まったらそちらの名前に変えようと思ってます

Ｅｎｇｌｉｓｈ　Ｎａｍｅ とは英語での名前というそのままの意味なのですが、ここPGバンクーバー校ではサミー学長がシャイな日本人学生に英語の名前を希望したら作ってくれます！

その英語の名前を持つことで、シャイな性格から English Modeで積極的にここカナダで行動ができるようになろう！

という思いがあるんですよ(^^)

バンクーバーに来て少ししか経っていない

と、いうことで...さっそく

Ｃａｆｅめぐりや、歩き回ってお店をチェックするのが趣味なので

初ブログの今日は食事について話したいと思います*。

みなさんはカナダの料理ってどんなものを想像しますか？

よく考えると…

フランス料理

イタリア料理

ベトナム料理

中華料理

韓国料理

などなど日本にもたくさんレストランがありますが

カナダ料理ってあまり聞いたことありませんよね?!

実は、特にカナダ料理という位置づけられたものはないのですが、ここでは日本にはあまりないタイ、シンガポール、マレーシア、モンゴル、ベトナムなどいろんな国のレストランがあってカナダでしか食べれない国の料理を食べることができるのです

私もさっそく行っちゃいました(・∀・)

この日はＰＧのお友達と中華料理を食べました*。

ちなみに、一番手前が私です

こうやって食事をしながら異文化体験ができるって、とっても素晴らしいですね（＾＾）

さっきも言ったようにバンクーバーには様々な国のレストランがたっくさんあるのでお友達とレストランめぐりをするのもいいかもしれません *。

どこのお店が美味しいとか、どんなお店がおススメとかいう事は、私もまだあまり行っていないので、これから更新していきたいと思いますっ(･ω･)ﾉ

長くなりましたが、この辺で～ *。

Last weekend, I went to hike a mountain with my friend who is from Hawaii. He studies Japanese at college in Victoria, so we taught each other.

It was a perfect weather.

There were a blue sky, the mother nature and fresh air.

I really got refresh.

On the top of the mountain, we talked about ourselves in English.
At the time, I found that I could express my opinion in English

and I could understand English.

In addition, I could give some advices to him in English.

What a nice thing.

After a while, we decided to climb down the mountain and to take

the different way. We saw a strange shape tree and some cut animals.
We talked.
We got lost our way.
We ran out of time.
We had to run to catch the bus to go back downtown.

I had a nice time.
Probably I'll go there again.

☆引越しパーティー☆

こんにちは　Helenです

こっちでの生活も５ヶ月目になり、
一緒に来たワーホリの友達はほとんどを卒業し、
ホームスティからシェアハウスに引越ししました

こっちは一人暮らしをすると、少しお高くなるので、みんなでひとつの部屋に住んで、台所やお風呂などをシェアするのが定番です

そこで、引越し祝いにhouse warming partyをしました

みんなでたこ焼きやお好み焼き、韓国人の友達はキムチを作ったり、カードゲームをしたりと、
飲んで、食べて、遊んで…とドンちゃん騒ぎでした




もちろん私も、飲んで、はしゃいだので…

酔っ払って…

に帰って、ベットにfall down（倒れこみ）ました


ここでHelenの一言英語

酔っ払ったり、疲れでベットに倒れこんで、眠ってしまうことを、


「fall down」を使っても間違いではないのですが…

「pass out」を使った方がよりです




そんな感じで、毎日友達と楽しく生活を満喫しています

☆街並み☆

こんにちは　Helenです

最近で、少し外に出るのが憂鬱になりますが…

でも、バンクーバーの建物はやっぱりオシャレです





こっちの建物は、ガラス張りの高層ビルや、レトロなビルを多く見られます



私は日本にいるときから、レンガを使った少し古い感じの建物が好きだったので、こっちの建物を見るのが大好きです



私のお気に入りの先生も、古い建物が好きなので、

「あのビルかわいいね」

「あれはどう？」

と話し合っています


その会話の中で通じない言葉が…

それは、「レンガ」

私、レンガのって、外国っぽいイメージだし、煉瓦って漢字で書けるけれど…英語だと思ってたんです

こっちでは、「レンガ」＝「brick」というそうです

辞書で調べても、ちゃんと「brick」で出てきました


まぁ、こっちもやっぱり現代的なの方が多く見られますけどねぇ～



でもやっぱり、街並みは素敵です

I went to the festival where my teachers were going to play music.

I though it would be a good chance to become closer friends

with teachers.

The first thing I did was to hold hands with fifty or so people,

and make a circle of people. Before long, strange music started.

During the music, we put up hands, sometimes we shouted.

The next that we did was to make a spiral.

The head of the line of the circle started to move and he moved

into the center gradually.
It might look strange and weird, but I enjoyed it.

After that, the techer's band turned up and played rhythmical music.

The members of the band wore Indian type cloths.

Some of them played the drums, others played the maracas

and the others played percussion instruments.

It was too stimulating for us to not begin dancing.

Most of the people were dancing which was so unique.

It could've looked so weird that others who were perticipating

in the festival might've though that we were dangerous people.
However, I didn't mind that because we were having fun!!

It was a little bit long before the music ended.

The teachers told us that was a good opportunity to have a

conversation with local people because all of the people were

super friendly. It meant that I would be able to improve my English.
Wow, What a good idea!!
However, unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to do that.
The next time when I have an opportunity like this, I'll probably do it.
