I would like to talk a little bit about Holland. For many people Holland is not the first destination that comes to mind when traveling abroad. Usually it's combined in a Europe tour where people only spend 1 or 2 nights in Amsterdam. I don't blame you, i'd rather go to Hawaii too :)
However, if you do decide to stay a little longer, here is my top 5 places that you SHOULD visit when you go to Holland.
5. Haarlem.
If you like shopping then besides Amsterdam I'd recommend making a stop at Haarlem, not too far from Amsterdam, only a 15 min trainride. It has very nice centerplaza with a giant church in the middle and some cozy shopping streets. I really recommend it.
4. Madurodam.
Madurodam is the miniature world of Holland. Its very nice to see the famous Dutch and global landmarks in miniature scale and see the miniature world come to life.
Also if you happen to find a "mars" truck, put some money inside and you will get a small surprise. :)
3. Zaanse schans.
Yes, this is actually one of the recommended touristplaces. But its a good one. It has a very nice Dutch "polder" atmosphere, has 3 different windmills, a clog maker and a couple of other interesting shops that you should visit.
