Hi, everyone. It’s Miho here.
I started working at Petit Planet at the beginning of December.
So I’m pretty new and looking forward to seeing you!
Today I want to introduce you to some Kiwi English.
First do you know what “Kiwi” means?
This means “New Zealander,” or functions as an adjective to describe and clarify a noun, just like “Japanese” refers to a person and describes things. You can say, “She is a Kiwi,” or “I like Kiwi food.”
The national bird (flight-less…) of New Zealand is called “a kiwi” and it turns to mean “New Zealander.”
Also the word “Kiwi” is used in the name of a fruit called a kiwifruit.
Why “Kiwi”? This is because I lived in New Zealand for about two years.
Here are some Kiwi words and phrases.
Ta…Thanks
cuppa… a cup of tea or coffee
capsicum…green pepper
take-aways…take-outs
chips…french fries
kai…food
spuds…potatoes
Kia Ora…Hello
sweet-as…”cool” or “awesome”
Kiwis have a slightly different pronunciation of these words below, from
what we learn at school in Japan.
tomato
garage
How different? Please ask me at Petit Planet.
Wishing you Merry Christmas.
Miho

本日はニュースタッフのミホさんにブログを書いていただきました(^-^)/
ニュージーランドの言葉には独特なものがあるんですね。
Ta(タッ)(Thank you)は私がモーリシャスにいるときに南アフリカ共和国人がよく使っていました。
cuppaはオーストラリアで聞きましたし、共通なものも結構あるんでしょうね。
tomato
garage
は是非、プチプラでミホさんに聞いてみてくださいね☆彡
それでは本日も
Have a lovely day!
