A child of King-Koshin was passed away on July 7.
その子は霊鬼神となり、
The child becomes a spirit demon,
ちまたに「瘧（おこり）」という熱病を流行らせました。
"Okori disease (febrile illness)" was prevalent
in the whole country.
そんな時、
At such time,
「索餅（サクベイ=そうめんの原型）」を供えて祈ったところ、
when the King prayed and
offerings with "Sakubei(=Prototype of Soumen)",
祟りが鎮まりました。
the curse became calm.
索餅はその子が生前好んだ食べ物だったのです
"Sakube" was the food, that the child likes before life.
索餅は祟りを鎮めるお供えとして定着したようです。
Sakube seems to have been fixed as the offering
which calms a curse.
