10月13日、フィリピン マニラのケソン地区を
自動車で走行中のジョセフ サリバ牧師（４２＝バプテスト派）が
何者かに射殺された。
目撃者によると「発砲した後、犯人は平然とオートバイで立ち去った」という
サリバ氏は北部パンガシナン州ダグパン市の教会で牧会に当たっていた。
正義、人権擁護や
ギャンブルなど不道徳な犯罪行為への反対活動で知られている。
パンガシナン州は、違法ギャンブルが盛んなところで
公式のデータによると、月額240万ペソ以上に到達する違法賭博のため
フィリピンで第２位ということから、超教派でキリスト教会が対応に当たっていた。

台風フアン（13号）の被害状況によると
19日午前11時現在、死者は10人、負傷者は12人。
ルソン地方北部を中心に２,２６８世帯、１万４３４人が避難したという。
