その数は１万人を超えるとされています。
こうした子供たちは「コピノ（ｋｏｐｉｎｏ／ｋｏｐｈｉｎｏ）」と呼ばれています。
「コピノ」は、韓国人（Ｋｏｒｅａｎ）と
フィリピン人（Ｐｈｉｌｉｐｐｉｎｏ）の合成語です。
コピノの父親となった韓国人男性たちは
ゴルフ旅行や語学留学などでフィリピンを訪れた際
現地のフィリピン女性と親しくなり、妊娠させてしまったケースが多いようです。
韓国人男性たちが、生まれた子供を認知するなり
フィリピン女性と結婚するなりすれば問題はないのですが
多くの韓国人男性は、自分の子供を妊娠・出産した女性を置き去りにして
そのまま韓国に帰国しているケースが多いようです。
韓国では、数年前から
コピノを生み出す韓国人男性が問題になっており
コピノの父親たちに対しては、同じ韓国人から
「韓国のイメージを損ねており許せない」
「恥ずかしく胸が痛い」と批判の目が向けられています。
事態を問題視した韓国人たちが、コピノの支援に乗り出しました。
こうした韓国人の父親に捨てられた
コピノのたちを支援する財団が設立されることになり
今月９日、フィリピン・セブ島でコピノ支援財団の創立されるという。
