フィリピンのマニラ首都圏開発庁は
３０日、主要道路や公共施設などでの違法喫煙や
ポイ捨ての取り締まり強化に乗り出した。
禁煙推進団体は、愛煙家のアキノ大統領にも
「たばこをやめ禁煙キャンペーンの先頭に立って」と訴えている。
これは、世界禁煙デーを３１日に控えた取り組みです。
２００３年にたばこ規制法が施行されて以降
初めての大規模な取り締まりで
規制法では公共施設やレストラン、ホテルなどでの喫煙が禁止され。
違反者には初犯で５００ペソ（約９３０円）の罰金が科せられ
払えない場合は８時間の社会奉仕活動が義務付けられた。
常習者は罰金額が増えたり、禁錮刑などが科されたりする。

太平洋戦争中にビサヤ地方レイテ州で戦死したアメリカ兵の遺骨が
65年ぶりに遺族のもとに届けられた。
調べでは、アメリカ兵は1945年３月12日に輸送機ごとレイテ州に墜落、死亡した。
戦後しばらく輸送機は行方不明だったが
1989年にレイテ州のフィリピン人警官が輸送機の残骸と遺骨を発見。
その後、アメリカが10年以上かけて、ＤＮＡ鑑定を行い
アメリカ兵の従兄弟と親類関係にあることが判明したのです。

経済連携協定に基づいて
今年度の第１陣となる７０人がマニラを出発し
２９日午後、日本に到着しました。
今年度は看護師と介護士を目指す合わせて１６９人が来日する予定でしたが
東日本大震災や福島第一原子力発電所の事故への懸念が広がり
来日を取りやめる人が相次いでいます。
看護師を目指す人は全体のおよそ３０％に当たる２９人が辞退し
３年前に受け入れを初めて以来、辞退者は最多となりました。
