元NBAバスケットボール選手のヤオ・ミン氏が
5月4日、マニラに到着した。
彼がオーナーを務める「上海シャークス」と
フィリピン代表各チームとの親善試合が、6日と7日に予定されているという。
姚明（Yao Ming,上海出身,1980年9月12日 - ）は
中国のプロバスケットボール選手で
北アメリカ男子プロバスケットリーグ「NBAのヒューストン・ロケッツ」に所属していた。
ポジションはセンター。背番号は11番。
身長229cm、体重141kg。大男たちの集まるNBAの中でも非常に身長が高い選手であり
リーグを代表するセンタープレーヤーだった。
「歩く万里の長城」と呼ばれていた。

考慮するよう伝えた。
様々な条件はあるものの、
初任給は、公務員としては比較的高い
月給1万6,000ペソ（約39,000円）以上だという。

フィリピンのルソン島ラウニオン州サンフェルナンドで
5月１日、現地に住む日本人男性鈴川寿さん（６９）が
自宅前の路上で銃撃され、死亡しているのが見つかった。
地元警察によると
鈴川さんは高利で無許可の融資を地元の住民にしており
返済をめぐってトラブルを抱えていたという。

拳銃の所持を認めないと伝えた。
また一般市民に対して
選挙管理委員会が施行している選挙前の銃規制を順守するよう訴えた。

贖罪と慰霊
1992年からセブ州カモテス諸島で医療奉仕活動を続けてきた
富山県出身の清水猛さん(89)が、旭日単光章を受章した。
清水さんは太平洋戦争中、カモテス諸島で多くの戦友を失った旧日本兵。
「贖罪と慰霊」のため私財を投じ続けた活動が地元島民の間で高く評価され
受章という形で実を結んだ。
