フィリピン政府は新空港の建設や既存空港の改修・拡張を急いでおり
航空機や乗客の増加に対応するとともに
観光など他産業との相乗効果を狙っている。
現地紙インクワイアラーなどによると
フィリピンの国家経済開発庁（ＮＥＤＡ）は
中部ビコル地方アルバイ州に
４８億ペソ（約９０億円）を投じて新空港を建設する
「ビコル国際空港計画」を承認した。
国家経済開発庁幹部は新空港建設について
「増加する航空便の安全かつ効率的な運航に貢献する」とし
合わせてビコル地方へ国内外の観光客を誘致する意図もあると説明した。
政府はこのほかにも中部ヴィサヤ諸島のボホール島や
南部ミンダナオ島など、全国各地で国際空港の建設計画を進めている。
また、７月に地方の７空港の拡張整備事業の入札を行ったほか
先月も東ヴィサヤ州の既存９空港の整備計画（総額２０億ペソ）を発表するなど
地方空港の整備も相次いで行っている。
