開高健ノンフィクション賞

作者の水谷竹秀さん（３６）は
フィリピンで経済的に追い込まれた「困窮邦人」の実態を取り上げ
開高健ノンフィクション賞を受賞した。

開高健ノンフィクション賞受賞作「日本を捨てた男たち」の一部は
紙面に掲載されたが、大半は書き下ろし。
２年前に独自取材を本格的に始めた。
休日や仕事が終わった後、自費でフィリピン国内や日本の家族宅を訪ね
マニラの犯罪多発地区にも足を運んだという。

フィリピンパブで知り合った若い女性を追い掛けて結婚し
日本の家族に見捨てられた技術者。
借金返済に追われて逃亡してきた運送業者。
「恥ずかしい人生を聞き出すので取材を断る人もいた」。
虚言や金の無心もあった。
事実をこつこつと積み上げて「駄目な人間」の悲哀を描いたという。
