, Thursday in the kitchen of an apartment in the 8600 block of East Old Spanish Trail near South Camino Seco.“The mother was warming up oil for cooking purposes when she stepped into the bathroom,” Capt. , 5, and 3 — out of the apartment, then the mother “ran back into the apartment with a fire extinguisher that she grabbed from the wall outside her apartment and tried to extinguish the flames,” Baker said.When firefighters arrived at the complex, they could see black smoke coming from the second floor apartment. They pulled hose lines into the apartment extinguished the flames, then pulled down the ceiling above the stove and used a thermal imaging camera to make sure the fire didn’t extend to the attic space, Baker said.“I saw three buses on fire and I called the fire brigade.“The emergency services arrived and got it under control and it set ablaze again, perhaps because of the oil.“I put things at the front door ready to go like shoes and coats because it looked very close to the house.“It was very bright and intense and spread really quickly- it’s amazing how it went from worrying to really worrying very quickly.“It could have been a lot worse if the fire brigade didn’t come.”Fire fighters were wearing breathing gear and used a hose and one jet to extinguish the fire.The cause of the fire is thought to be arson and the incident has been handed over to Devon and Cornwall Police.According to residents the police have been knocking on doors to see if anyone has information.A spokesman for the police said: “We are investigating and working with fire investigators to establish the cause.”A spokesman for the Western Greyhound said that no buses will be running on the 572 service between Polperro and Plymouth or the 573 service between Polperro and Callington from Liskeard today.
