I read the book, and watched a movie, " to Build a Fire" ,
written by Jack London.
I also read the story, "The Call Of the Wild",
which was the main story for our English class this term,
but I'll talk about this next time
cause I was more influenced by "To Build A Fire".
私はジャック・ロンドン著「たき火」という本を読み、その映画を見ました。
同著者の「野生の叫び声」という物語も読みましたが、
それが今学期の英語の授業のメイン！ ←w
なのにも関わらず、「たき火」の方が私をもっと強く感化しました。
ということで、「野生の叫び声」については今度紹介します。 ←w
I have learned about this story in my English class at school,
but it was really about the topic which I was always holding curiosity;
"The Will To Live" and "animal instinct".
この話は、私が以前から強く好奇心を抱いていた
「生きるという欲望」と「動物の本能」に関するものでした。
My teacher, the film, and the book told me that human and animals has
a very strong will to live by their instinct, and that causes the will to win.
先生の言葉や、本・映画から分かった事は、人間には「生きる本能」があるゆえ、
「勝ちたいと思う本能」が生まれる、という事でした。
The reason that human and animals are so obsessive about winning is because,
that they their brain recollect the painfulness of losing. Mentally and Physically.
Also, from the memories of ancestors, humans and animals know
that the result of losing is always disastrous.
なぜなら、「敗けるという事」は、精神・肉体の両面で傷つき、
そして、常に崩壊へとつながる事を脳が記憶し、
遠い遠い先祖の体験として、遺伝子レベルで記憶されているからなのです。
【以下、ネタばれです】
The story is about a man and a husky traveling in the snow of 75 below zero.
and at last, the man who didn't listen to the man from the Sulphur Creek,
died freezing. What the man from the Sulphur Creek told him was,
"to not travel alone in the snow."
そのストーリーは、氷点下75℃の雪の中を、
独りの男とハスキー犬が目的地に向かって彷徨うのですが、
体験者の注告を守らなかった愚かな男が、最後は凍死するというお話です。
その注告とは、「雪の一人旅は絶対に成功しない。
独りで行ってはいけない。」という事でした。
Though it's 75 below zero, there were the place where the water does not freeze.
The springs. The spring covered with snow where there like traps, camouflaging.
The man was caught in this trap, and wet his feet.
In a panic, the man build a fire, fighting with his anxiousness.
しかし、氷点下75℃でも、凍らない水はあるのです。
それは、丁度湧き出ている場所であり、まるでトラップのように存在したのです。
男はこれに片足を浸からしてしまい、パニック状態の中、
出来るだけ落ち着くように自分に言い聞かせ、火をおこしました。
He succeed. He laughed to him self about what the man from the sulphur Creek says.
He thought' " the only thing a man need is the unfrozen brain.
A man can travel alone in the snow."
「俺は独りでも困難を乗り切った。人間に必要なのは切れる頭なのだ。
独りでだって雪の中を旅できるのさ」と、心の中で体験者の言葉をあざ笑いました。
However, as the man tries to untie his strings of moccasin to dry his wet feet,
the snow above him which was covering the trees fell right on the fire.
It was melting while the fire was burning and lost its balance.
The fire was gone, and the man was shocked.
しかし、足を乾かそうとモカシン（靴）の紐をナイフで切ろうとした時、
頭上の木に覆い被さっていた雪が火の熱によって溶け、
バランスを崩し、たき火を直撃しました。
もちろん、折角おこしたたき火は、あっという間に消えてしまいました。
The man was in Panic again.
He tried to build his second fire with frozen finger, but failed.
He wasted all his 70 matches at once and realized it was not a matter
of loosing his fingers ,arms or foot; but a matter of living or death.
He tried to kill his husky.
男は半狂乱で次のたき火を起こそうとしますが、
手袋から手を出した瞬間に、もう指は寒さで動かなくなっており、
男はマッチ70本を全て無駄にし、火をおこす事に失敗しました。
ここでやっと、体験者の忠告を認めるのです。
そしてもはや数本の指を失うとか、腕や脚がなくなるといった次元に
自分が居るのではない事に気がつきます。生か死か。
挙げ句の果てに、男はハスキー犬を殺そうとします。
I wondered why. And the answer was traumatic.
何故なのか？私も最初は疑問に思いました。
He tried to kill his husky because he wanted to cut open its stomach
and shove his frozen finger to it to get warm and build a third fire.
彼は、殺した犬の腹を切り開いて、その中に手を突っ込み、
指の感覚を戻して火をおこそうとしたのです。
The husky noticed that something was wrong. That was his instinct.
Then, the man snatched on the husky; like raping it.
They fought for a while, and the man realized that he could not even kill a dog
with his frozen finger which can't hold a knife.
He stated running, not checking the direction frantically.
Soon, he could not run. He decided to sleep to death under a tree near him.
He accepted his death, and fell comfortably in to his dream.
犬は本能的に、何かいつもと違う事を悟ります。
その男のレイプにも近い、犬に対する暴行と格闘の末、
男は自分の凍り付いた手では犬一匹殺せないと気付き、
狂ったように無我夢中で、方向も確認せず、道無き道を走り続けます。
そして起き上がれなくなるまで走った後、
一本の木の下で眠ることを決意したのです。
これは、彼が死を受け入れたという事です。
Beside the man, the husky thought it was unnatural for a man
to sleep like that in the snow with no fire. He dashed.
Not to save him or what, he dashed straight to find his new food provider,
and a fire provider.
安らかに眠りにつく男のとなりで、犬は異変に気付き、走り出します。
それは次の「食料提供者」と「火の提供者」を探す為でした。
Its a story like this, summarized.
