I started taking care of cactus again. I had one last year but it died from root rot and the few succulents I have either shriveled, got nibbled by insects, or rotted .Even though I swore never to have them again, I never shut up about how they look beautiful whenever I see photos online.
So one day, my dad came home and gave me beautiful potted domino cactus. The echeveria below is my sister's but it died from the crazy weather changes. The domino cactus is still alive and well.
After that I bought two more. It's so difficult to identify them so every night I browse online, searching for the same descriptions to find out about their proper care since plants have their individual needs.
I wrapped each pot with mesh wires to protect them from the insects that nibbled on my old cactus and succulents. The thing is, even with the intense sunlight they were getting thoughout the day, the wire mesh decreased the light so much that some of them became etiolated.
I didn't even know what etiolated means until I found out later that the one in blue pot is supposed to be spherical. They were already etiolated when I purchased them- I just thought they looked like cute green-colored chubby corn. Now they just look like fat-bottomed caterpillars lol I'm so sorry
The mama plant's trunk isn't getting enough nutrients with all the growing babies around her so she shrank a bit. Look, it's producing more babies!!! I plucked some of the babies for propagation and .stuck them in water cups. I hope they'll grow roots soon.
They look like cucumbers????
These are babies that were accidentally detached from their mommy plant. They grew roots even though I just left them on top of the soil. This is the first time I've ever had roots growing on cactus babies. My previous attemps were never successful - they just shrivel up after a few days even with proper misting.
I've also started taking care of ferns and pothos. My neighbor saw me tending to my plants and asked me if I wanted aloe vera. I said YES!
She came back with a lot of aloes with offshoots and what I initially thought were harvested asparagus!!! . Turns out it was fairytale castle cactus. What a sweet and generous lady!
I know they all need better soil mix but I'm scared of repotting them seeing they're doing so well in the soil they're in. Maybe after a month or two I'll repot them. I'll just wait for the mama plants to recover a bit from their etiolation and having their babies plucked from them. It's also the rainy season and it takes longer for their soil to dry; I don't wanna add more stress to their roots.
I love the sea (when I'm not swimming in it lol coz I can't swim)
Sometimes it's easy to look past the wonderful things around you. However, I'm always reminded that no matter how crappy my country may seem, I'll always be grateful that the sunset will always look equally beautiful wherever I go.
