今日はお茶会で出るお菓子について学びました。

I had tea ceremony class again!
Today I learnt about the sweets that come out during a tea ceremony.
菓子は古代には「果子」と書かれていたらしくて、本来は果物が出たそうです！！
お茶とお菓子と言うセットのイメージが強いと思いますが、もともとお菓子は料理の一つとして、食事の最後に食べるデザートのようなものでした。
今日は正式なお菓子をいただきました。この箱は「縁高」(ふちだか)と言いまして、お菓子は「亥の子餅」(いのこもち)です。
A long time ago, the japanese kanji character for "sweets" was written as "fruit sweet". Now it is written as "confectionary". Back in the day, fruits were served!
Often it is thought that tea and sweets come as a pair during a tea ceremony. However, actually the sweets come as a set with the meal and is a dessert to eat at the end of the meal.
Today we had quite an official sweet that is served in a box called "fuchidaka". The sweet is called "inokomochi".

The next sweet I had is this! Inside the hard exterior is a surprise!!
中には可愛いサプライズ！
There was a very cute surprise!
