時に ネクタイ選びはとても難しい。スーツのお店に入ってこんなのを目の当たりにすると、思わずため息が出てしまう。
Shopping for ties can be frustrating. Especially when you walk into a suit store and see this:
さてどれを選ぶべきだろうか？今回はあなたのワードローブをスマートに彩る、３種のネクタイについて話したい。
1. ソリッド・タイ
Solids
大人の男性にとって、多くの場面で使えるソリッド・タイ（単色のネクタイ）はマストなアイテムだろう。たいていの色柄のドレスシャツやジャケットと相性が良い。一般的にネクタイの色はシャツの色よりも暗いものを選ぶと良いと言われるけど、確かにそれは言えている。ネクタイの色を選ぶ時はまず、主張しすぎない、暗い色合いのものにしよう。ダークブルー、ダークグリーン、チャコール、オリーブなんかはとても使い勝手が良い。もちろん黒も持っておくべき。フォーマルな場面で役立つだけでなく、ワインレッドやダークブルーの柄物のシャツともよく合う。
Solid ties are a must have for any man and you’ll get a lot of use out of them. They look great with dress shirts or outfits with a lot of pattern on them. Conventional wisdom says that your tie should always be darker than your dress shirt and I agree. So, choose colors that are muted and of a darker hue. Dark navy/blue, dark green, charcoal, or olive will get a lot of use. Black is also a must have for formal occasions but also looks good against a patterned dark burgundy or dark blue button up dress shirt.

Knit
単色のニット・タイはここ最近人気が出てきている。カジュアルな服にちょっとしたアクセントと上品さをプラスすることができる。これらも何本か持っておくと良いのでは。
Solid knit ties are also very popular these days and you can use them on your casual outfits to add a bit of texture and class. You should have a few of these as well.
2. フラール・タイ
Foulard
フラール・タイ（フーラード・タイ）とは、綾絹のネクタイのことで、狭義では柄物のネクタイを指す。柄は幾何学模様であったり、デザインされたものであったりと、その見た目は様々だけど、これも持っておくべき重要なアイテム。規則的な小さい模様が全体に配されたものを選ぼう。なかでもピンドット柄（非常に細かい水玉模様）はおそらく最も一般的で、どんなシャツやジャケットにも合うので、いくつか持っておきたい。ネクタイ自体のメインカラーはソリッド・タイのところで挙げたものが良い。個人的には白のピンドットを推したい。
Foulards are ties that have a repeating pattern. These patterns can be shapes, designs, or pretty much anything. They are very common and another important item to have. Choose patterns that are small and repeat evenly throughout the tie. The “pindot” is probably the most common and you should own a few as they will work with most of your outfits. Go for the ties that have a dominant color in some of the colors mentioned above in solids. I also suggest going with white pindots.
3. ストライプ
Stripes
ストライプのネクタイはどこのお店にも置いてある。これもまたマストアイテム。ストライプが左から右に、または右から左に斜めに配されたものがよく見られる。ここでもやはり注意したいのは、ちょっと特殊な服装の時でもない限りは、落ち着いた色調のものを選び、やたらと色を使ったストライプは避けるべきということ。２色、あるいは３色がベスト。
These ties are on every tie rack at the mall. Also a must have, they usually feature diagonal stripes from either left-to-right or right-to-left. Once again, unless you are choosing a tie for a particular outfit, go with ones that have a muted dominant color and try to stay away from ties with too many colors in the stripes, 2 or maybe 3 works best.
