S. Graham, Kathleen Raine, Henry Treece and J. F. Hendry. These writers saw themselves as in revolt against the classicism of the New Country poets. W. S. Graham isn’t the best-known of the 20th-century British poets. His work appears in anthologies, but survey classes don’t always make time for that tiny selection. A reasonably well-read person might still not know his work. The new edition of his poetry published the New York Review of Books may remedy that oversight. Graham’s public emergence from his long silence in Malcolm Mooney’s Land came under the aegis of the Poetry Book Society.
