Pine Trees
A single row of gigantic pines
Was in the midst of paddy fields of Yamaura
Against the backdrop of the
Soaning cone of Mt.Tateshina.
Apparently planted as a protection
Against the wind,
The pine trees were rising dozens of meters
Into the sky, assuming
A natural form of an overhanging cliff.
I walked closer to them
And looked up.
Overwhelmed, I gazed at the sheer size and the
Beautifully twisting pine branches.
I felt my heart soothed and
Cleansed.
These pine trees must have lived here
At least one hundred years before my birth.
These pine trees will live on
At least one hundred years after my death.
With irrefutable nobility,
The giant pines were towering over me,
Breaking through the membrane of dilemmas
Of all the anguishes of the world,
Almost nonchalantly.
