Recently, I find myself listening more and more of English songs.

I find them more profound and meaningful than perhaps, Chinese songs.

But listening to songs and reading lyrics are 2 different thing altogether.

It’s amazing how I can just hum to the rhythm of songs and sing to it, but not realizing it's actual meaning. It’s like reading a lit text and watching a play. The text makes you understand more about the thoughts and feelings of the character, while the play just play out more of the storyline.

Most of the time i like a song because of the music but i fall in love with it because of the lyrics.

(Which makes me wonder... the lyrics writer could actually read my mind or most people just face the same shit...)

A song’s rhythm and tempo need not resonate the true meaning of the lyrics.

Like how Maroon 5 sings Nothing Lasts Forever, Won't go home without you, the beat and genreis not something many of us would associate with breaking up…

Maybe its pieces like this that has drawn me closer to English songs.

Though they could be a manifestation of my loveless life, but at least they do not sound that heartbreaking...

While on the otherhand Chinese songs take the saddest form of the human condition, heartbreaks, jealousy, betrayal, pain and agony, repeat it over and over again in the chorus.
