JAY Z has said that his much-documented argument with Solange Knowles, which was caught on camera after the 2014 Met Gala, is not typical of his relationship with his sister-in-law.

“We've had one disagreement ever,” the rapper clarified in an interview recorded before his headlining set at V Festival, Chelmsford, on Sunday night. “Before and after, we've been cool. She's like my sister. I will protect her. That's my sister. Not my sister-in-law. My sister.”

The father-of-three continued on the Rap Radar podcast: “We've always had a great relationship. I fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space, but it ain't nothing.”

The footage, filmed in an elevator at the Standard Hotel following the Met Ball, showed Solange kicking and striking her brother-in-law. It was leaked a week after the incident occurred by an employee, who reportedly sold it to website TMZ for $250,000 following a bidding war. The employee was subsequently dismissed.

On May 16, Jay Z, Beyoncé and Solange released a joint statement about the elevator video, but declined to explain the cause of the blaze. “Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred,” an excerpt read. “They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family. The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behaviour throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."
