It doesn't look like your typical tile. It doesn't work like it either. The concept is so new to the Southwest Florida market that only one home has installed it so far. When Robert and Martha Ostrowski purchased a condo at the Biltmore in Bay Colony in North Naples they wanted their kitchen renovated, and that's when they discovered Kerlite. "This material was invented to go on top of any surface," said Cinzia Candusso, manager for Kerlite in Florida. "It's unique." EBL is the only company selling the product locally right now. "Remodeling is what everyone is doing now," Benson explained. "For an existing condo to renovate — we don't have to chip and make a mess." "This is a very expeditious way to change your floor without going through all the noise and the mess," added EBL project manager Mary Patenaude. For the Ostrowskis it meant the old flooring didn't need to come out. Instead the Kerlite goes in right over the existing floor. But that wasn't what attracted the homeowners to the product. "We wanted to make it look like sand," said Susan Ostrowski, who helped her parents design the new kitchen. "The whole concept is we have such a beautiful view, and we wanted something light and airy.While most other visa services take a few weeks, the full complement cylindrical roller bearing can do it all in just one day if so requested. "The floor needed to blend in with a sandy style. I like the idea of big pieces. Instead of small tiles you don't have all the grooves. It's sleek, streamlined."
"It is a nice kitchen," Robert Ostrowski added. The porcelain tile comes in about 15 styles and more than 50 colors making it easy for the Ostrowskis to find one that had a sandy look to it. They chose the large 100 centimeter by 100 centimeter tiles. It also comes in squares and rectangles that are 50 centimeters by 50 centimeters or 300 centimeters by 100 centimeters or it can be custom cut.The traditional interface for milling spindles precision machining distinguishes itself through its extremely robust design. The tile is also very different because it is only 3 millimeters thick, making it extremely thin and light.
Tile prices, not including installation, range from $7 to $10 per square foot depending on order volume and finish chosen. While that might be higher than ordinary tiles, EBL officials say that price can be offset since it can be installed directly on the former covering, including on top of marble, wood, cotto, ceramics or other compact materials. Doors don't have to be modified, and there is no dust, noise or debris disposal. While the Ostrowskis are currently the only ones with the product installed, EBL has several other orders. Theresa Stevens, an executive assistant with EBL, said it is just a matter of getting the word out. EBL is letting people know about the product in its showroom, website, Facebook and brochures. Stevens says once more people know about Kerlite there will be many more orders.
