David Louie, owner of Harry Louie Laundry & Dry Cleaning on Governors Avenue, was told on Tuesday by the city that all of the annual parking passes for downtown had been sold, and previously undesignated parking spots in the city's Bradford Street parking lot were being taken up as part of fulfilling the contract.

In response to Mr. Louie's complaints, DDP executive director Lou Colon, DDP president Gregg Moore, the city's Planning and Community Development director Ann Marie Townshend and members of the DDP Parking Committee held an impromptu meeting on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the layout of the parking area in downtown.

We hope that this gesture of free parking and accommodating existing permit holders will alleviate any inconvenience.

In the near future, the DDP will release an updated map that identifies the permit and metered parking lots controlled by the DDP, Mr. Moore said. "In addition, we will be unveiling new parking lot signage that will direct traffic to parking locations more effectively,"he said.

"We will use these tools and meetings to communicate the parking available to Downtown businesses and shoppers in the upcoming months," said Mr. Moore.

It was announced earlier this year that Trans Core will move the E-ZPass customer services center from 26 Old Rudnick Lane in Dover to a DDP property at 22-24 W. Loockerman St. in downtown Dover. The opening date for the new facility is expected for March 1, 2014.

As part of the contract, the DDP agreed to designate 85 employee parking spots from its downtown Dover lots, with 23 of them coming from the DDP-run spots in the newly renovated parking lot on North Street. There are a total of 183 spots in the lot, and the remaining 160 spots in the lot are owned and operated by various businesses located in the immediate area.
