アナログレコードを引っ張り出して聴いてみるシリーズの第78弾は、イエスの「究極（原題：Going For The One）」（米アトランティック、SD 19106、1977年）です。 プレグレ的哲学路線を脱し、このアルバムからポップ路線に転向した、とも言える作風ですね。 ジャケットもヒプノーシスの作品らしい、シュール・モダンな雰囲気です。
ジャケットは三つ折りになってて、ジャケット中はこんな感じになっています。 というわけで、タイトル曲でもあるA面1曲目「究極」を取り上げてみます。 ポップですが、5分半ほどの長さがあり、ラジオでのヒットを狙ってはいない尺ですね。 じっくり歌詞など吟味したことなかったものですから、興味もありました。
歌詞を訳してみると、なんか冬季オリンピックにふさわしい内容なんで、偶然というのも面白いですね。 最後にLOVEは4つも出てくるので、ラブソングかと思ったのですが、スポーツ選手を激励するような内容の応援歌のようです。 ちなみに僕が好きなスポーツ選手は女子バレーボールの山田二千華さんです。 丸顔で、垢抜けてない田舎臭さが大好きなんです。
