The European Parliament on Dec. 12 remembered a young woman who died in police custody in Iran in 2022, during a ceremony at which she and an Iranian human rights group were officially awarded the EUs top human rights prize.
欧州議会は12月12日、2022年にイランで警察に拘束されて死亡した若い女性を追悼し、彼女とイランの人権団体にEUの最高人権賞を授与した。
上記の remember（ed） は、「（死者を）追悼する、悼む」の意味です。第一義の「思い出す」「覚えている」以外にも多様な用法があります。主にイギリス英語でメール文の結びの句として使われる、Remember me to your parents. は「ご両親によろしく」の意味で、Say hello to your parents. と同義です。He always remembers his wife on their wedding anniversary. は「彼は結婚記念日にはいつも奥さんに贈り物をする」の意味です。また、My father remembered me in his will.は「父は遺言で私に財産を残した」の意味です。
