【大空の華：日本の彩雲とアラスカのブロッケンの世界】
【 Iridescent Clouds in Japan & Brocken Circles in Alaska and the World 】
数年前の１２月の晦日、午後の散歩に、と思って外に出ると、千切れ雲の裏に隠れた太陽が素晴らしい彩雲を創り出していました。
雲に降り注いだ太陽光は、魚のオイカワやタナゴの婚姻色のように、雲をプリズムとして、雲の、つまり水の粒子を透過しながら分散し、艶やかなピンクと淡い水色に華麗に変化していたのです。道行く人々も魅了され、僕と一緒に眺めていました。
僕はカメラを抱えると、右往左往し、太陽と雲の位置を合わせながら、３０～４０分くらいシャッターを押し続けました。
時には墨絵のようでもあり、水彩画やアクリル画のようでもあり、このチャンスは天の恵みとしか思えません・・・たくさんある天の恵みの一つです。
A couple of years ago, in late December, as I was out to take a walk in the afternoon, the sky seemed to be a canvas of an abstract painting.
The sunbeam shined the upper side of clouds, wherefore the clouds, coloured elegantly, could be sighted over me. At one moment, it looked like a painting work in Indian ink, so-called Sumi・e, or lovely one in watercolours.
Soon after that, the clouds changed their shapes and some parts of them were turned pink and light blue, as the colours of a rainbow.
The charming artistic sky's show lasted for 30 or 40 minutes, which attracted some passers-by. One of them came up to me and asked me how well I could photograph the stunning sky.

アラスカの北極圏に行った時、完璧なブロッケン現象に何回も出会い、日本に帰国後、多くの友達は写真を見て、凄い、とビックリしていました。僕の通っている床屋さんは、これは幸運の象徴ですよ、と言って、大判の写真を一枚、お店に掛けてくれています。
２０１６年８月のことでした。
アラスカのベーリング海峡辺りをセスナ機で飛んでいる時、下方に浮かんでいる平滑な雲に、丸い虹が架かり、虹色の空間には、僕の乗っていたプロペラ機の影が、車輪も、はっきりと映っているので、興奮してシャッターを押していました。
( One of these photos attracted a Japanese friend, who is the owner of a barber shop, hanging one on his shop's wall. )
Another surprising action which I viewed in the sky was the Brocken Circle. There were three occasions in the northern part of Alaska in August 2016.
It was a perfect picture of the iridescent circle and the shadow of my propellar plane, Cessna therein, which was created on the sea of clouds below me. It was when I was flying between Nome and Bering Strait over the Bering Sea shore.

アラスカの同じ８月、アラスカ航空のジェット機で、アンカレッジ空港からアメリカ最北の町バロー（ Utqiagvik ）に飛行中、たぶんフェアバンクス上空だと思うのですが、自分のジェット機の影が映ったブロッケン現象の丸い虹を見ました。
ジェット機の影はだんだんと大きくなり円の壁を突き出るほどに成長し、やがて丸い虹もジェット機の影もフェードアウトしました。
すると間もなく、別の丸い虹とジェット機の影が見えてきました。機影はもちろん僕の乗っているジェット機です。
小型プロペラ飛行機とジェット機が空港に待機している時にはあまり意識していなかったのですが、両者の車輪の違いを、丸い虹の中ではっきりと確認しました。
飛行中、プロペラ機の車輪は機体の腹部の外に下がったままであるのに、ジェット機は、必ず車輪を機体の中に収納している、ということを機影が見せてくれるのです。
車輪が機体の下に突き出して飛行しているか否か、それは飛行速度の違いによる単純な、あるいは些細なことかもしれませんが、それはさておき、プロペラ機が車輪と一緒に虹の中に映っている姿は、ジェット機よりも愛嬌があり可愛く感じられます。
Another chances were while I was flying from Anchorage to the town Barrow ( Utqiagvik ) facing the Arctic Ocean also in Alaska.
On this occasion, the air vehiecle, whereon I was riding, was a large jet of Alaska Airlines .
Getting larger and larger, the shadow of the jet in the colourful circle seemed to break through the circle's wall and charge into the space.
I saw two types of airplanes' shadows on or in the colourful circle ; a tiny Cessna for six passengers and a large jet for about 200 people.
The small plane's shdow is quite cute not only for the shape of it as such but also its wheels attached onto the body outside ; it does not store the wheels into the plane's bottom even while flying, which attracts me a lot.
The larger jet, whereas, always flies, keeping its wheels inside.
彩雲とブロッケン現象の写真の背奥に、いくつかの思い出が内包されています。
彩雲を見ると、俳句歳時記で紹介されているページや、昨年他界した友達の書家が毎年招待してくれた、お正月の前衛的な書の展覧会（昔は上野の東京都立美術館で開催され、最近は六本木の方で）を思い出します。篠田桃紅さんの作品だったでしょうか、ワンポイントで紅色を置いた強烈な墨絵も頭に浮かんできます。
セスナ機のブロッケン現象からは、ベーリング海峡を南から北極の海へ走り抜けたイギリスのクック船長と、彼とは逆に北極海から南に通り抜けたノルウェーのアムンゼン、あるいは植村直己がグリーンランドから犬ぞりを駆って、独りで北極海沿岸を旅した時のアラスカのゴール地、コッツビューの町のことが思い出されます。
コッツビューの町といえば、ドローン撮影に長けたお医者さんがいて、ある時、僕にコッツビュー沿岸の氷の世界を紹介してくれたこともあり、懐かしいです・・・。
ジェット機のブロッケンの虹はアンカレッジからバロー（Utqiagvik )への途中に見られたので、新田次郎の『アラスカ物語り』のフランク安田彼自身のことと、彼が建設したユーコン河畔のビーバー村（今も多くの日本人が訪れているようです）や前述の植村直己とフランク安田と、町の外れに住んでいる、あるエスキモー（イヌピアット）家族と彼らとの深い縁（彼らはお互いに気付いていない）が思い浮かんできて、感動やせつなさを感じています。
As I see the photos of the Sai-un, iridescent clouds, some memories come to mind.
A couple of things can be remembered : a book, a haiku poem's compendium of seasonal terms, which explains the terms used in haiku poems, about the Sai-un clouds, and a Japanese friend, an a-vant-garde colligrapher who used to invite me to Tokyo Metroporitan Museum, where his huge works were displayed. His drawing skills were awesome. Moreover, especially his Hanko Stamps, which are used basically for calligraphy or painting works, were reputed to be excellent.
From the Brocken Iridescent Circles with the Cessna's tiny planes's shadow that I viewed around the Bering Strait, Captain Cook from England, who sailed through the strait, from South to the Arctic Ocean and a Norwegian Exploreror Roald Amundsen who passed there from North to South, and a Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura's dreadful journey by himself just with a dog sledge in the icy world, from Greenland to the goal, Alaska's small town Kotzebue which is located around the Arctic Circle are recalled as fantastic memories.
The shadow of an Alaska Airlines' jet plane in the iridescent circle over between Fairbanks and the northernmost town Barrow in America makes me remind of the lovely story of a Japanese man Frank Yasuda who lived among Eskimo ( Inupiat ) people and devoted his whole life to saving the town people from their starvation in the poor harvest of whales.
Half a century after Frank Yasuda's deeds, a couple of the villagers now helped a Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura around the Point Barrow , who had been almost exhausted after his terrible journey, as written above, whereas, alas, they did not recognize each other's fateful and amazing connection , unfortunately.
