【稚内の感動：夜空の風車、日本最北の鉄道、札幌のスキージャンプに立つ （２/３）】
【in Wakkanai, a White Windmill in the Dark Night Sky, Japan's Railway End, and Ski Jump in Sapporo 】
（日本最北の鉄道のレールだそうです）
宗谷岬のあたりにホテルを、と探したのですが見付からなかったので、稚内駅の近くに一泊しました。
稚内の埠頭ではイカを釣る、なかなかユーモラスな男性がいました。中くらいの大きさのイカを一杯釣り上げて、これだけでは彼一人分しかないのでもう一杯釣らないと、と言っていました。・・・ということは、彼の家族は奥さんと二人暮らし、でしょうか、あるいはおばあちゃんがいて、彼が最初のイカを自分一人で食べ、もう一杯は奥さんとおばあちゃんが食べる、のでしょうか。
I stayed one night in Wakkanai , around the railway station, which is at the northernmost in Japan. Before the station entrance, the Northern End of Japanese Railway can be viewed.
At the pier nearby was a man fishing squids, who had just got a middle-sized squid out of sea surface.
He said " I've just fished one which is only for me, I need one more for my family."
I guessed from his words that he might live with his wife only or with his mother. He would eat one by himself and the other squid could be for his family ???
Why I thought of that funny thing came from his friendly and cheerful character.
He could not get a next squid while I was there for chatting with him, though.
僕が見ている間彼は次の一杯を釣り上げることが出来せんでした。 今は既に夜、駅前の広場は明るいですが、空は暗闇です。
ホテルに向かって歩いていると、暗い山上に白くライトアップされた、大きな風車が眺められ、なかなか幻想的な宇宙を感じました。
翌朝、ホテルから雨が降りそうな（１０時ころには小雨でした）街路を眺めていると、家庭ごみ集積所に痩せた、貧相なキタキツネが食べ物をあさっていました。キタキツネは、丘陵とか林の中とか、自然に生活している姿がよさそうです。
目の前のビルの屋上では、スイミング・プールのように水がいっぱいになっていて、カモメが何羽も泳いでいました。・・・冬には氷が張り、スケート・リンクになりそうです。でも手すりがないので、下手なスケーターはそのまま道路に落下、ですね。
While I was walking back to the hotel, a huge white windmill for power generation was lit in the dark night sky. It was amazing.
It was a little drizzling next morning. At a garbage collecting station was a lean KITA-KITSUNE (ezo red fox, according to the internet), which should be viewed around a highland or lonely hill. That poor fox !
In front of the hotel, was a curious building which had a water pool on the roof, where some sea gulls were swimming.
It could be an ice skating rink in winter. Poor skaters might / could fly down onto the ground out of the roof, for it did not have any guard fence.
北海道旅の最後に、札幌の友達を訪ねました。彼の歓待を受け、カニと寿司をご馳走になり、ワインもいただきました。彼の愛車でスキージャンプ場にも案内していただきました。
スキージャンプのスロープを下から眺めると恐ろしく感じられます。スタート台に立つと札幌市街を眺められ（夜がよさそうです）、素晴らしい眺望ですが、でも真下の滑走スロープを見下ろすと目が眩み、足がすくみました。
このジャンプ台で葛西選手、高梨選手たちが、長いスロープの先１００メートル以上も先に飛ぶのですから、考えるとゾッとします。僕が経験したスカイダイビングではパラシュートで、落下方向を操縦できますが、スキージャンプの選手たちはスキー板と自分の体でバランスをとらなければいけないので（多分）、大気の重さ、濃度、流れなどを考えると、・・・凄く大変なことだと、つくづく思いました。
My final destination in Hokkaido was Sapporo where my friend was waiting for me. He treated me to restaurants for dinner with crabs, nice sushi, wine, of course.
He drove me to the ski jump facilities, Okurayama Shante. When I stood at the top of the leaping point and looked down at the steep slide and landing ground, I was terrified and almost frozen. My legas were quivering, stepping backward.
余談の笑い話が一つあります。
新千歳空港から札幌駅前まで、何も考えることなく、タクシーに乗りました。楽しい運転手さんで、随分といろいろなことを話してくれました。看護婦さんの奥さんに家庭菜園をしていて、土の作りが難しく、とても大切なことだと教えてくれました。ブタに真珠、と言われそうです！ ネコに小判、の方がいいでしょうか。
しかしながら・・・、タクシーに1時間以上乗っていましたから、それなりの料金です。
今度札幌に来るときは、空港から札幌駅まで電車に乗り、節約できるけっこうな料金で、タラバガニや寿司をいくつも食べられそうです。友達にあほか、と・・・。
There is an extra, funny story. From Shin-Chitose Airport to my hotel near Sapporo Railway Station, I took a taxi , without thinking of the far distance.
The driver seemed to be glad to get an innocent guest me and was quite talkative. He told me even about his wife a nurse, for whom he would grow vegitables on a small garden. He also taught me how to produce a good soil for vegetables. His lecture has not been necessary for me・・・.
My friend and I were talking about that the travel from Shin-Chitose Airport to the hotel in Sapporo should be by railway. It is much cheeper, wherewith more crabs and sushi must please us very much.
