クック船長の故郷と彼の探検地、イギリス、ニュージーランド、アラスカ（クック船長はここまで探検しました）、ノルウェーのオスロ（付随的に）を訪れた、旅の写真エッセーです。もともと日本語版のものを、外国の人々のために、英文を入れて改訂しています。特にイギリスのCaptain Cook Memorial Museum, ウィットビーの人々、世界のCaptain Cook Societyの人々のために・・・。

ウィットビー修道院の小さな遠景を見るのは、郷愁であり、さまざまな思いがあり、好きです。
多分、夕方（！）の8時ころ、空が赤み始め、その大空間に浮かぶ、修道院の廃墟を、ホテルの部屋から眺めていました。こんな魅惑的な建物を、日本のどこに見ることが出来るでしょうか。
--- Whitby Abbey to be sighted from various, distant places is almost NOSTARGIA to me. It was about 8 o'clock at dusk, whilst it is completely at the dark night here in Tokyo. In the reddish sky, the Abbey, which I sighted from the hotel, was quite alluring---.

古めかしいウィットビーの鉄道駅玄関と、道路反対側に面した郷愁を感じる商店街、そして中央に立つ街灯（？）のずっと向こうに垣間見える、小さな修道院はほとんどノスタルジーの世界です。
---Whilst I walk around the Whitby Railway Station, the little abbey comes into my eyes, as an ancient building. I love the street lamps which can never be seen in my country Japan..---

東の崖上にポツンと聳える修道院遺跡、西の崖下の遊歩道（堤）から眺めてボーっとしていると、修道院下のヘンリエッタ・ストリート（＂８０日間世界一周”を思い出します）まで、ピョーンと跳んで行きたくなります。
---Along the embankment under the West Cliff, I ramble every day during my stay in Whitby. The Abbey looks glorious, hiding the long history. The street under that cliff is called "Henrietta Street", which reminds me of "Around the World in 80 Days".---

2016年10月1日、世界で最高の友達Richard Baker （Whitbyの有名人）が、僕との再会を誓いながら、逝ってしまいました。僕と国際電話で長電話をした数日後に・・・
彼はガーデニングが大好きで、庭を二つも持っていました。こちらの広い庭から垣根越しにウィットビー修道院の遺構が眺められます。彼はこのアングルがお気に入りで、僕はこれを見るたびに、修道院、あるいは彼の栄枯盛衰を思います。
彼の偉業が Richard Baker Recollections というサイトでご覧になれます。このサイトは、彼がウィットビーのCaptain Cook Memorial Museum の受付けやガイドをやっていた人で、Captain Cook Society のジャーナルにも紹介される人ですから、安心サイトです。
ちなみに、僕の思い出エッセイがRecollection 2の中に掲載されています。
---The skelton of the Abbey snapped from the neat garden of my best friend Richard is extremely impressive. He has been helping me quite much, even after his passing on October 1, 2016. Thanks to his recommendation, I am now a member of Captain Cook Society, and a supporting member of the Captain Cook Memorial Museum in Whitby. This photo implies a lot of good memories.---

クック船長が、タヒチ、ニュージーランド、オーストラリアなど南太平洋探検に臨んだ時の帆船、エンデバー号のレプリカ、リトル・エンデバーで北海をセールすることが出来ます。海上から眺める修道院が微小に見えると、船がどれほど沖合まで走って来たかが分かるというものです。
+++++ Whilst I stay in Whitby, trying the replica of Cook's first sailing ship Endeavour is a kind of must for me, who fell in love with Captain James Cook and has being journeying around in Cook's World. Sighting the tiny Whitby Abbey and the microscopic Captain Cook Statue (enclosed in the star) explains how far we were sailing off the shore, in the North Sea. +++++
