=====①c-1.

Fourteen of us called on Tanaka at 2130 and presented a letter signed by all 22 foreigners protesting the burning of the city and continued disorders. More promises!/ Rabe fears for his house, for buildings are burning across the street from him. He has over 400 refugees living in matsheds inhis garden./ The problem of feeding is becoming Serious - some refugees, hungry, started rioting in the University./ Our coal will soon be finished, but Riggs is scouting for more. The Japanese have sealed all supplies of coal and rice./ Soldiers came into our place today, voer[over] the wall, and tried to take our cars while we are all out, and at another time [they nearly got Soon's truck from him./ Rabe had a letter today from Dr.] Rosen, of the German Embassy, through Mr. Tanaka, saying he was on the H.M.S. "Dee"[Bee] at Hsiakwan but not allowed to land and asking about German properties. Rabe replied that he was glad to inform him that  two houses were not looted, the Ambassador's and his own, and that two cars were still left! (There are over fifty German resistances in Nanking.)

Fourteen of us called on Tanaka at 2130 and presented a letter signed by all 22 foreigners protesting the burning of the city and continued disorders. More promises!

Rabe fears for his house, for buildings are burning across the street from him. He has over 400 refugees living in matsheds inhis garden.

The problem of feeding is becoming Serious - some refugees, hungry, started rioting in the University.

Our coal will soon be finished, but Riggs is scouting for more. The Japanese have sealed all supplies of coal and rice.

Soldiers came into our place today, voer[over] the wall, and tried to take our cars while we are all out, and at another time [they nearly got Soon's truck from him.

Rabe had a letter today from Dr.] Rosen, of the German Embassy, through Mr.

Fourteen of us called on Tanaka ...

[...] that was the arrival by the N..... boat, through the Japanese Embassy, of a letter from Dr. Gong[Fong] Soo [...].

 a letter from ... through ...
