Surrounded by volcanoes, Antigua has been attacked by earthquakes various times. The one in 1773 destroyed the city completely and they ended up moving the capital to now Guatemala city. Last week, I heard "Bomb!" when I was on the rooftop and I saw smoke coming out from one of the volcanoes. I was amazed since I had never seen eruption. And today, when I was having a Spanish lesson at home, we felt swinging...we started to talk, "Isn't it earthquake..." and it lasted at least 30 seconds. My Spanish teacher was almost crying, saying "I barely escaped alive from the earthquake in Antigua 30 years ago...oh Maria...my kids are at home alone... At that time, the house 6 people were living totally collapsed, my mom and sisters were under collapsed walls and then saved being covered with blood. Everyone ran away bare footed, with nothing..." The shake didn't last and we felt relieved, but I sympathized with her devastating earthquake experience.
