Amazake is a traditional Japanese

fermented drink and made with

rice and rice malt.

It literally means "sweet (ama 甘)"

and "liquor (sake 酒)".

The history of amazake goes back to

the Kofun period (250 to 538 AD).

In the Edo period it was consumed

during the hot summer months

to prevent summer fatigue.

These days Amazake is called

the "IV drip to drink (nomu tenteki)",

since it's so rich in nutrients.

Benefits of drinking amazake :

In Japan, Amazake can be found in almost

any supermarket or convenience store.
