健康状態は安定、家族で海外旅行にも行ったりと夏を満喫しておりました

さて、義父つまり嫁の父も実は前立腺がんを患っていた先輩患者でした。
7年ほど前に発覚、特に転移もなかったため放射線治療とホルモン治療を経てここ数年は寛解状態でした。
しかし不思議なもので50代の（だった）私にはあれだけ出たホルモン治療の副作用も、70代だった義父には全く出なかったとのこと。
やはり男性ホルモンの分泌がまだ活発な年代には、影響が大きいのかもしれませんね。
その義父も80台半ばとなり、肺や心臓などの疾患が出始め、さらに左足には脊柱管狭窄症からくるしびれや痛みが出て、だいぶとあちこち他のところに問題が出始めていました。
左足のしびれと痛みがひどいので、近所の整形でＭＲＩを取ってもらったところ、がんらしき腫瘍の影が幾つかあるとの指摘を受けました…
急いで大きな病院で診てもらうと、やはり前立腺がんの再発転移との診断でした
その時のPSAが4.02程度
転移の状況を調べるためPET検査もしたところ、骨転移、リンパ、肝臓に転移が見つかりました
しばらくは肺の疾患にばかり気を遣っていたので、本人も家族も前立腺がんのことはもはやすっかり忘れていたのですが、どうやら再発していたようです。
ということでザイティガの投薬がはじまりました。
肺の疾患への影響もみつつ、心配しながらの投薬開始でしたが、PSAは4.02から翌月には3.79にダウン
ひとまず効いていそうということで、このまま収まれば一安心だったのですが…

No news is good news, right? Health-wise, things have been stable. We even managed to enjoy a family trip abroad this summer.
Right now, I'm busy gearing up for this year's harvest season of lycopene carrots.
Speaking of health, turns out my father-in-law, the old man, had a bout with prostate cancer as well.
Discovered about seven years ago, he went through radiation and hormone therapy, and things were in remission for the past few years. It's strange, though. The hormone therapy side effects hit me pretty hard when I was in my 50s, but the old man in his 70s seemed to breeze through it without a hitch.
Guess the secretion of male hormones in those still-active years might play a big role, huh?
Now, in his mid 80s, he's dealing with issues like lung and heart problems, and recently, he's been experiencing numbness and pain in his left leg due to spinal stenosis. Went for an MRI nearby due to the severe discomfort, and they found some tumor-like shadows… Rushed to a bigger hospital for a checkup, and yup, it's a recurrence of prostate cancer with metastasis.
His PSA at the time was around 4.02. PET scans revealed metastases in the bones, lymph nodes, and liver. He'd been focused on his lung issues, so both he and the family had pretty much forgotten about the prostate cancer, but looks like it's back.
So now, he's on Zytiga. Started with some worries considering his lung issues, but the PSA dropped from 4.02 to 3.79 the next month. Seems like it's working for now, but fingers crossed it keeps going that way…
