My husband was away in Tokyo for two days on business. I spent the night at my parents' and made nekoben for my father who is still working. For both of men, I believe, bento is something they bring from home to the front. You may laugh that I am too sentimental. But today, there's no job like a pie (especially in the middle of this extended depression). I feel everybody's wearing out his or her nerves and bodies everyday at work. It wasn't like that at all during the asset-inflated years, when I first got a full-time job, sometime two decades ago. Life was easier for everybody, and so was job. I wish and wish that nekoben could brighten up their days even a little.
Today's nekoben:
kanten rice
grilled miso-marinated white-meat fish
rolled egg with leek and sesame
bacon and spinach roll
stir fried fish sausage and tomato
Dessert:
Orange
