I am renting a plot of land and growing vegetables here in Hokkaido. Spring comes late here, so we start preparing the soil and seed only in May. We grow many kinds of vegetables, and all of them taste terrific. But I appreciate the harvest of root vegetables in autumn so much because they last all through the harsh winter. When spring comes, and just in time we start running out of the stored vegetables, they start selling all different kinds of spring vegetables. Then, our asparagus start cracking the soil, and soon our sweet beans sprout. There's nothing like the feeling of living a year in harmony with the season.
