I started making bento (boxed-lunch) for my husband when we got married two and half years ago. Compared to peanutbutter'n-jam-sandwitch, Japanese rice bento is awfully time consuming and costly to make. You have to coock small portion of this and that to go along with rice. All convinience stores are busy in marketing their original bentos, and they're selling in increasing volume. Restaurants are offering lunch-value-set at competitive price targetting businesspersons who are lacking both time and money. No wonder no one bring bento from home anymore. But I want my husband to eat what I cook, considering his condition and health. I cook fish and vegetables mostly.
Today's nekoben:
rice cooked with ager(seaweed)
saury boiled with dried bonito (soy flavor)
fried burdock and carrot with chicken (soy flavor)
rolled egg with tuna
Dessert: fruits and milk ager
