なかなか立派な方だったみたいですねぇ。17つかな、『思想』が書かれてますが
当たり前のことだけど、正直に言って、出来る人は少ないんじゃないかと思う。
①『他人の長所を認める。』(Recognize the strengths of others.)
会社の成功に彼らが果たした役割について、自発的に、速やかに、公に言及すること。
それを自分の功績として、自らの自発的な動機で働いた人々の功績を
自分のものにすることは、卑劣な行為であり、愛情の源を断ち切り、
幹部が適切に行動することを妨げます。
(Spontaneously, promptly, and publicly mention the role they played in the company's success.To take credit for it and take the credit for those who worked of their own volition is a despicable act, cuts off the source of affection and prevents officials from acting properly.
②『自分の怒りをコントロールする。』(Control your anger.)
人は、どんなに苛立たしい挑発に耐えなければならないとしても、どんな問題や状況も

制御できない人は、企業のリーダーとして行動することはできません。
真の経営者は、怒る権利を放棄します。

③『決して他人を嘲笑してはならない。』(Never ridicule others.)
誰かや何かをからかってはいけません。人を傷つける冗談や二重の意味を持つ冗談は
避けてください。皮肉が引き起こすダメージは決して癒えないことを
心に留めておいてください。
(Don't make fun of anyone or anything.Avoid hurtful jokes or jokes with double meanings.Keep in mind that the damage caused by cynicism never heals.)
④『礼儀正しくしてください。』(Please be polite.)
あまり堅苦しくなりすぎず、他の人があなたと一緒にいることを
楽しいと感じられるようにしてください。
(Don't be too formal and make sure people enjoy being with you.)
⑤『寛容になりましょう。』(Let's be tolerant.)
人種、肌の色、マナー、教育、あるいは他人の特異性の中に見られる多様性。
(Diversity found in the race, color, manners, education, or idiosyncrasies of others.)
⑥『時間厳守。』(Punctuality.)
約束を守れない人はすぐに邪魔者になるだろう。
(Those who cannot keep their promises will soon become a hindrance.)
⑦『虚栄心が強いなら、それを隠さなければなりません。』
(If you are vain, you must hide it.)
まるでそれが最も親密な秘密であるかのように。
幹部は傲慢さや自己満足を見せてはいけません。有名人の失敗はしばしば
「傲慢は転落の前に来る」という格言を裏付けています。他の従業員が無能だとか、
顧客がけちで愚かだとか言い始めると、トラブルを招くことになります。

⑧『真実を変えてはいけない。』(Do not change the truth.)
話す前によく考え、約束を守らなければなりません。半分真実を言えば間違いは隠せますが、 それはほんの一時だけです。嘘はブーメランのようなものなのです。
(You should think before you speak and keep your promises.Telling a half-truth can hide a mistake, but only for a moment.Lies are like boomerangs.)
⑨『他の人に話させましょう。』(Let others speak.)
特に協力者の場合は、問題の本質に到達するまで、たとえ 1 時間も辛抱強く
話を聞く必要があるとしても、会話を主導し、会話を導くだけに留まらなければ、
あなたは悪いディレクターにはなれません。
(Especially collaborators, until they reach the true crux of the problem, even if you have to listen to them patiently for an hour. You would make a poor director, if you dominate the conversation instead of limiting yourself to guiding it.)
⑩『簡潔に自分の考えを表現します。』(Express your thoughts concisely.)
特に指示を与えるときは、明確かつ完全に伝える必要があります。
辞書を近くに置いておくと便利です。
(With clarity and completeness, especially when giving instructions. It is always helpful to have a dictionary close by.)
⑪『語彙を洗練させる。』(Refine your vocabulary.)
感嘆詞は使わないようにしましょう。下品な表現や馴れ馴れしさは表現を弱め、
誤解を招きます。偉大な国会議員は、敵を言葉で打ち負かす際に
下品な表現を一度も使用しませんでした。
(Eliminate interjections. Vulgarity and familiarity weaken expressions and create misunderstandings. Great parliamentarians never used a single vulgar expression to destroy their enemies verbally.)
⑫『仕事を楽しむことを忘れないようにしましょう。』(Be sure to enjoy your job.)
他のことに趣味や興味を持つことは良いことですが、土曜日に出勤したり、
残業したりすることが犠牲になる場合は、休暇を取って別の場所で
仕事を探す必要があります。
(Having hobbies and interests in other things is positive, but if going to work on Saturdays or working overtime becomes a sacrifice, you need a vacation and a job somewhere else.)
⑬『肉体労働者の大きな価値を認識する。』
(Recognize the enormous value of the manual worker.)
その生産性により管理職としての地位が可能となり、両者の将来が保証されます。
(Whose productivity makes the management position possible and affirms the future of both.)
⑭『自分の利益よりも会社の利益を優先する。』
(Think on the benefit of the business over your own.)
これは良い戦術です。会社への忠誠心は自己利益を促進します。
(This is a good tactic. Fidelity to the firm promotes self-benefit.)
⑮『インスピレーションや直感を超えて分析する。』
(Analyse over and above the inspiration or intuition.)
これが行動の前提条件となるはずです。
(This should be the prerequisite of action.)
⑯『仕事への献身。』(Dedication to work.)
これは聖職者と同様に、個人、企業、社会全体に利益をもたらします。
(This benefits the individual, the firm and society as a whole, being similar to the priesthood.)
⑰『謙虚になりなさい。』(Be humble.)
車や家の大きさ、友人や所属するクラブの数、贅沢品、オフィスのドアに掲げられている
看板 などは、人の価値とは何の関係もないことを理解しなければなりません。
そして、もしこれらのものが、きちんと静かにこなされた仕事や、それらを獲得するための
知識や精神的な洗練以上のものを意味するのであれば、態度や仕事を変える必要があります。

ジャンプタウンっていうのは、オリジナルのニックネームだよ、ってことかしら?
(歴史的なブラック・ウィリアムズ地区の元々の愛称はジャンプタウンでした。)
都市開発により、この地名はなくなったそうですが、ジャズ音楽が活発な地域だったようです。
Black、という言葉が入っているのと、ジャズから察して、黒人コミュニティだったのだろうと
思いますね。
