What's in a Name?
My wife and I are always going on about needing to keep a diary of our boy's growth...
More than keeping track of his growth, I haven't even written about him on my blog...
No, it's not even that, we haven't even sent out the birth announcements yet...
Forget the announcements, we haven't even named him...
Just kidding. Of course we've named him.
His name is..........a secret. His nickname is Abu. We call him that because when he smiles, he says "Abu~~" in the cutest voice ever。
I know I said I was joking, but it did actually take us a while to name him. In America, it's the law that you have to name your baby before you leave the hospital. In Japan, you can apparently wait for two weeks after he's born.
My wife was hospitalized for 2 months before our son was born. She hated her time in the hospital and didn't want to name him there.
A week after he was born, they left the hospital. Were this America, he'd already have a name, but we still hadn't decided. My American family was constantly on about "What's his name? WHat's his name?"
Then, the time limit for Japan came. Let's see...14 days after birth, If he was born on February 25 so that means it should be March 11.
違う!
No!
The day he was born is included! We had till the 10th. Fortunately, we noticed that on the 11th.
When we went to submit his birth certificate at the city hall, we were worried that we'd be fined for being late. But it was okay. We weren't fined.
It took two weeks, but he finally had his name.
