The city police on Wednesday arrested a Russian national who was staying in Vaishali Nagar without a valid passport and VISA.
The woman, Oliga Timoshik (31), was arrested after her identity was disclosed to the Punjab police by a German national Thomas Kuehn (45) who too was arrested on same charges in Ropar on May 29.
tiffany jewelry Alerted by their "unusual" activities, the police are investigating if the duo were involved in spying. "Kuehn was moving around suspiciously close to the Bhakara Nangal Dam disguised as a sadhu (hermit) when our constables spotted him," SP (Ropar), LN Yadav told DNA.
The Russian woman, too, allegedly used a fake identity to live in a rented accommodation in Vaishali Nagar. "Timoshik has introduced herself as Kuehn's wife to her landlady, who is widow of an Army man. But, Kuehn says she is his girlfriend," IGP (Jaipur range-I), BL Soni said, suggesting that the woman too had a suspicious behaviour.
Timoshik and Kuehn reportedly told police that they first met in October 2006 while travelling from Goa to Delhi onboard a train. "They remained in touch with each other through emails and chats," said Yadav.
ed hardy hoodies Kuehn later went back to Germany in November that year, but returned to India in February 2007. A few months later, the two met in Maharashtra where they stayed together for a week.
"Kuehn says that there he confided to Timoshik about his expired VISA. The woman in turn promised to help him out claiming connections in India," Yadav said.
Investigations have revealed that both foreign nationals have been staying illegally in India since 2007. "There is more to the story. We will produce the girl before the court in Ropar and grill her to find fake nike shoes if there is a nexus of such people in India and if they were involved in spying," Ropar's SP said.
