「絶対来てね！」子どもが米国で昔通っていた小学校のPTAメールから。Be there or be squareは誰かを誘う時の決まり文句。The Free Dictionaryは"A humorous phrase said to encourage someone to attend an event, indicating that their absence would make them "square"—the opposite of cool."と定義している。
PTAメールをいまだに受け取っているのは、このようによく使われる生き生きとした英語表現に触れられるから。この手の表現はニューヨーク・タイムズやエコノミストを読んでもなかなか目にすることはない。
