1月にスペインのバルセロナとサンセバスチャンに行ってきました。
実際に行く前、私のスペインのイメージといえば闘牛やフラメンコに象徴されるような「情熱の国」。
国民性も性格強そうな人が多いんだろうなと勝手に思っていました。
しかし、実際に行ってみたら想像とは全く別の国でした。
まず、人がとても親切で丁寧です。私が訪れたことのあるヨーロッパの15か国の中で一番親切だと思いました。
バルセロナでは一度違うホテルに間違えて入ってしまったのですが、そのホテルの受付の方は、正しいホテルへの行き方を調べてくれて、乗車するバス停の位置や降りるバス停の名前まで丁寧に教えてくれました。
また、正しい方のホテルでも、チェックインする際にフロントで無料の地図をもらおうとしだけにもかかわらず、受付スタッフが周辺の観光案内を丁寧にしてくれました。
接客面だけではなく、地元の人もとても優しく、路線バスの中で打刻機の使い方がわからなかった時はおばちゃん二人がスペイン語で教えてくれました。
スペイン語は分からないけど、ヨーロッパに住むならスペインがいいなぁと思ったくらい居心地が良かったです

I went to Barcelona and San Sebastian in January.
Before I actually visited, I had an image of Spain as "an enthusiastic country" represented by bullfighting or flamenco.
I expected that national character was also feisty.
Besides, I heard on the news that there are many demos because of issues caused by over-tourism, so I worried about public safety.
However, Spain was totally different from what I had expected.
First, people were pretty kind, and it was the best of fifteen European countries I had visited before.
In Barcelona, when we got into the wrong hotel, the concierge searched for the direction of the right hotel for us, politely telling us the location and name of the bus stops we were supposed to get on and off.
Also, at the right hotel, when I just asked for a free map during check-in, the concierge gave us tourist information in detail as well.
It was not only customer service, but also the locals were very kind as well. When we were riding a bus and didn't know how to use the ticket validation machine, two old women told us in Spanish.
Although I don't understand Spanish, I felt comfortable and thought I could live there if I were to live in Europe.
