昨日英会話レッスンを受けていたら、フィリピン人の先生に「なんで日本人は英語を喋るときにミスすることを恐れるの？」と聞かれました。私も正確な答えは分からないけど、小さい頃からテストばかりで、完璧を求められるからだと思うと答えました。おそらく日本は学歴社会で、小中学生の頃から受験やテストのための英語を勉強しているので、自然とそうなってきてしまうのだろうと思います。私の場合はミスが怖いと言うよりも、そもそも単語が出てこないだけのことが多いから、ただ単に瞬発的に答える力がないという場合もありそう。
When I took an English lesson yesterday, a Philipino teacher asked me why Japanese people are afraid of making mistakes. I didn't know the correct answer, but I answered that I think Japanese are required to take a lot of exams and always be perfect since their childhood. Probably, Most Japanese people are pressured to mark high scores on exams to enter a good school and a university, so they are naturally afraid of making mistakes. In my case, I often take much time to remember words rather than being afraid of mistakes. Some people may just not have the skills to answer in English immediately.
